Volkskrant and NRC Next on 'Radical'

Volkskrant and NRC Next, two leading newspapers in Holland, have each published an article about Dubstep in which Radical is featured. De Volkskrant goes deeper into the realms of the Dutch Dubstep community, while NRC Next writes about the Amsterdam Dance Event. Here is what they wrote:

Volkskrant: "For those who want to listen to Dubstep online there is Radical Radio, by Nika & Myrkur, on www.soundsradical.com."

Nrc Next: "The Dutch venue OneFourOne in Amsterdam is organising a Dubstep, Grime & Drum-'n-Bass party next thursday. Two of the performing artists will be Myrkur & Nika, who run the just founded Radical organisation. They've been active for less than a year, but have allready released several tunes. Especially Myrkur's 'Entanglement', a melancholic Dubstep tune, shows how diverse the genre has become in such a short time."

Review: Oi! Dubattack Paradiso with Caspa, Cluekid, Hatcha, Cotti, CrazyD, Gomes and Osiris_Amsterdam Dance Event

Nika: One word to discribe this evening: CHAOS!!! The biggest moshpit I've ever seen on a dubstep night. 1300 people came to see the number one dubstep-party animal Caspa (Rusko unfortunately canceled due to some private matters), the big room in Paradiso was loaded. This is one of those nights I will never forget.

The evening started with Osiris and Gomes. They brought the crowd in a good party mood with tunes of some Dutch labels such as Rwina records (A Million !) and Oi!records. Hatcha next on deck was very various in his tune selection, good set but could be a bit more up-tempo in my opinion. CrazyD sounded like: wahwahwaaah! Didn't add much to the evening as a host. And then...the big man Caspa dropped his first tunes and from that moment on the crowd changed into one big bouncing moshpit. It was unbelievable to see how dubstep has grown this last two years in Holland. Caspa played many heavy tunes and ofcourse with the biggest explosion at Where's mah money! [movie]

Last duo of the evening : Cotti and Cluekid. Played not very interesting in my opinion. Cotti dropped his I don't give a Dub tune, wich was already been played two times that night. But it was a good set to chill for the last hour and to end this tremendous evening.

F.4.T. Music releases Darko/Skktbrain by Myrkur

From the F.4.T. Music site:
F.4.T. brings you some special dubstep beats for this second release, with two marvelous and oneiric tracks from one of the most promising dubstep talent of the Netherlands: Myrkur.
SKTTBRAIN
Myrkur's homeage to Radiohead, using and combining elements from their works into a single track. With a 4x4 kick and thick layers of synths, it has a deep techno vibe mixed with flavours of IDM and Dubstep.
DARKO
An atmospheric track featuring samples from the movie 'Donnie Darko'. It starts with minimal clicky drums and progresses with some piano and glitched out wobble. All these elements come together when 'Darko' finally reaches its climax and it blows away.

You can buy these tunes at Digital-tunes.net

Heavy and sweaty Dubstep Weekend!

Review: Lockdown vs Conflict

Myrkur.Live_Radical_OT301
myrkur_gitar

The weekend started with Lockdown vs Conflict in the Flexbar, Amsterdam. With big names like Hijak, Stenchman, TesLaRok and Plastician this party was hot! Figurative and literally. I (Nika) missed the set of Hijak, which was really a pity because afterwards I heard he played Eastern Jam of Chase & Status. As some of you know..I love that tune.

Anyhow, Stenchman wrecked the place. Big tunes and his appreance is just brilliant. Cant wait to see him again at Bassklap in October. Plastician and TesLaRok continued to heat up the venue, supported by the wicked visuals of AntiVj. At the end I needed to get out, afraid that I might pass out! In short: this party was really good!

First Radical Party Succes!

On saturday it was time for the very first Radical party in OT301, Amsterdam! The place was crowded above our expectations. A lot of dubheads, (Tmus, Nicon, Osiris, Dyzz, Blauwe Fedde and even Hijak joined the club) but also a lot of new faces! Party kicked off at ten o'clock with Nika on the decks. Then DJ Plus took over after Nika with some nice and deep tunes and got people warmed up for Ew00t's set, which featured heavier stuff like Emalkay, NoahD and Distance that made the people go wild

Myrkur entered the stage with a set of sweet extravagant tunes. Next to his choice in records he had another suprise in store... At the end he took out his guitar and played live along with his track Entanglement. It was very special. Chills all over. At last, but defenetly not least, Brutuzz got behind the decks. He brought some big tracks and heavy hitters. We ended the party with the all time favorite track: Attenshun from Kromestar. (special request from Erwtenpeller) It was a really great night!

Unfortunately there was a dateclash with Oi! at Paradiso. Next time we will defenetly be there. With a line-up like this!

And now: Up to the next Radical!

Review: Sonic Warfare 5daysoff with Mala, Kromestar, Pinch and Loefah

After a dissapointing turn out at the last Sonic Warfare, this edition showed to be a lot more crowded. With a line-up occupied by dubstep heavyweights such as Pinch, Loefah, Mala and Kromestar this wasn't that surprising. The night started of in a unique way with Mala, not inside the Melkweg, but on a boat sailing through the canals of Amsterdam. Hearing Mala play on headphones realising that you are actually floating on water was a special experience.

Once again inside the Melkweg we heard Pinch playing a nice set with some great tunes of his own making. Mala and Loefah tore the building apart with some fresh tunes. Kromestar was suprisingly mellow, although he ended his set with a couple of heavy tracks such as alltime favorites such as Attention! Eventhough Coki and Stg. Pokes couldn't make it, the 9th edition of Sonic Warfare turned out to be a succes. Next edition in september with RSD, Joker, Rustie, Ikonika, Fox Gut Data and Cinnaman.

Review: Bassklap at LVC with Luke Envoy, Ruwedata and Manifest

With a name like Luke Envoy in the line-up, this party almost couldn’t go wrong. So many people know his tune ‘Honour Kill’ as the tune that sucked them into dubstep. Manifest kicked off at 11 with a nice varied set, starting with hip-hop and grime before moving gradually to the more dubstep inspired tunes. After Manifest came Ruwedata with a set just as varied, mixing grime, dubstep, techno and more. It was nice to be at a party with not strictly dubstep music.

At around 1 o’clock Luke Envoy took his place behind the decks, starting out with some reggae and dancehall inspired dubstep, before moving to a more industrial sound. His own dubs, like M.U.G.E.N., were welcomed with great enthusiasm from the crowd. As predicted, this party couldn’t go wrong. It was tremendous. We are looking forward to the next Bassklap.

Review: Sonic Warfare pt. 8 at Melkweg, Amsterdam

Although the line-up of the (already) 8th edition of Sonic Warfare was pretty promising, it turned out to be a bit of a letdown. Not only was the turnout the lowest a SW has ever seen, but also the music wasn’t as exciting as expected. Nevertheless it was a fun night, thanks to all the people backstage. Clouds played a pretty good set and spinned some nice new dubs. Cyrus had a very good tune selection, but wasn’t in much of a mixing mood. Breakage had a really good set and played some of mine, and the crowds, favorite dubs. The moment he played ‘Indian Dub’ by Chase and Status was epic, and alongside ‘Victim Support’ by Distance the highlight of the party.
