Semi-Famous to Release "Not Sorry" LP on Sound Rad
|
From the mind of Screeching Weasel co-founder John Jughead Pierson (also of Even In Blackouts and The Mopes) comes Semi-Famous—the fictional band from his cult book Weasels In A Box, made real.
Originally a satire of punk mythology, Semi-Famous first came alive in 2023 when Jughead teamed with Ryan Rockwell (Mixtapes) to write new pop-punk songs after long absences from the scene. Their debut single “Middle School Monster” quickly caught fire, leading to a 7-inch with contributions from Billy Brown (Crash and Burn, Ashers, Unseen) and Tyson Cornell (Scooby Don’t), plus art from legends Christopher Appelgren (Lookout! Records), Paul Russel (original Screeching Weasel logo), Tommy Eppesteingher, and production by Mass Giorgini. That chemistry led to their first full-length Destroy Ourselves—a record steeped in the classic pop-punk tradition the band members helped create and spread. Tragedy struck in 2024 with the passing of guitarist Billy Brown, but Semi-Famous regrouped with Poli van Dam (Bombpops, The Poli van Dam Band) and her husband (Murderland) to channel their grief into a follow-up album. The result is Not Sorry—a raw, heartfelt, and defiantly catchy collection that turns loss into anthemic resilience. Semi-Famous isn’t just a project anymore. It’s a family. And the music will continue. Sounds Rad! Records will release Not Sorry in late winter. Pre-orders launch soon. |
