The Return of the MopesThe Mopes have been known to appear and then just disappear. It's been two years since punk rock's version of the Chupacabra has graced the stage: Vapid, Jughead, and B-face. Two years too long.
The last time this band was sighted was at an amazing one-off show with Squirtgun, Kepi Ghoulie, and the Parasite at Reggie's in Chicago. The band brought the house down and then poof, they were gone. That's the thing about the Mopes, they don't hang around for a long time--but fans know that beyond their pedigree as former members of Screeching Weasel, Queers, and Groovy Ghoulies, that they coalesce into something really special. And when they decide to reform, it's something that cannot be missed. |
The band is now back together to celebrate John Jughead's 50th birthday with a weekend of shows in St. Louis and Chicago. Joining them in the celebration is a cavalcade of bands, who, like the Mopes rarely make an appearance in wild: The Lillingtons, Manges, Even in Blackouts, and Hospital Job. Each band is incredible--and they are coming together for a truly unforgettable weekend. The shows are almost sold out, so get tickets while you can. Check our events page for details.
The Mopes to Reissue "Accident Waiting to Happen" Sounds Rad! and the Mopes have agreed to reissue, "Accident Waiting to Happen." It's been 17 years since this album was released on Lookout Records--the album has been out of print for five years and Sounds Rad! is extremely excited to give this album some TLC. This reissued album has been remastered by producer, Mass Giorgini (who has worked with Green Day, Screeching Weasel, Alkaline Trio and many more) at Sonic Iguana Studios. In addition, we've commissioned all new artwork and amazing new sequence that contains two previously unreleased songs.
The album is slated for a soft-release date of February 18th, 2017 available as a digital download and packaged with a special "Hang 'Em Ten High" t-shirt and hoodie (available for pre-order). A very special vinyl LP will be released in late spring/early summer. |
