The Clash - The Clash - LP (180-gram)
Released on 8 April 1977 through CBS Records, "The Clash" is the debut studio album by the English punk rock band of the same name. Recorded and mixed within three weeks in February 1977 at a cost of £4,000, the album quickly climbed to No. 12 on the UK charts and has been acclaimed as one of the greatest punk albums ever, featuring prominently on many retrospective rankings. The songwriting efforts of guitarists Joe Strummer and Mick Jones, with the exception of the reggae cover "Police and Thieves," gave birth to a number of punk anthems including "Janie Jones," "White Riot," and "London's Burning," which were among the genre's first to gain widespread chart recognition. The album's line-up included Strummer and Jones on vocals and guitars, Paul Simonon on bass, and Terry Chimes on drums—the latter making his only studio appearance with the band under the pseudonym "Tory Crimes." Despite its initial UK success, "The Clash" was not released in the US until 1979, where it was presented with a significantly altered track listing that included several non-album tracks recorded in the intervening period, marking it as the band's second US release.
