Vandals - Fear of a Punk Planet - LP
"Fear of a Punk Planet," released in 1990 by Triple X Records, marks a pivotal moment for The Vandals, a southern California punk rock band. This album was the debut for the lineup of Dave Quackenbush, Warren Fitzgerald, Joe Escalante, and Josh Freese, establishing a stable roster that would define the band's identity going forward. Recognized by many fans as the Vandals' first authentic record with the "new" lineup, it signaled a return to their punk rock roots after the previous foray into country with "Slippery When Ill." The band committed to punk rock for the duration of their career thereafter. The title, a nod to Public Enemy's "Fear of a Black Planet," released the same year, suggests a clever interplay of cultural references. The album is notable for featuring guest appearances by Dweezil and Moon Unit Zappa, Scott Thunes, and Kelsey Grammer, and includes an independent music video for "Pizza Tran," the album's opening track.
