Weezer - Weezer (Blue Album) - LP
Weezer's debut studio album, commonly known as the Blue Album, was released on May 10, 1994, by DGC Records and produced by Ric Ocasek of The Cars. Formed in Los Angeles in 1992, Weezer initially struggled to find its audience amidst the grunge-dominated scene until their demo, The Kitchen Tape, caught the attention of Geffen Records. Opting for Ocasek's production expertise, the band recorded the album at Electric Lady Studios in New York City, employing a unique approach by treating guitars and bass as a unified, 10-string instrument. The recording process saw the departure of guitarist Jason Cropper, replaced by Brian Bell, to preserve the band's chemistry. Supported by hit singles like "Undone – The Sweater Song," "Buddy Holly," and "Say It Ain't So," which enjoyed heavy rotation on MTV, the album received widespread critical acclaim and peaked at number sixteen on the US Billboard 200. Achieving triple platinum status by the RIAA in 1995, the Blue Album is Weezer's best-selling work, with over 3.3 million copies sold in the U.S. and 15 million worldwide by 2009. Lauded as one of the 1990s' greatest albums, it was ranked number 294 on Rolling Stone's “The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time” list in 2020.
