Me First and the Gimmie Gimmies - Are We Not Men? We are Diva! - LP
"Are We Not Men? We Are Diva!" is a cover album by punk rock supergroup Me First and the Gimme Gimmes, released on May 13, 2014, via Fat Wreck Chords. Featuring renditions of songs originally performed by divas, the album maintains the band's signature style of infusing classic punk elements into their covers. Preceding the release were two singles: a cover of Paula Abdul's "Straight Up" and Christina Aguilera's "Beautiful." Guitarist Joey Cape noted the album's tendency to tackle "guilty pleasure" songs, with the title paying homage to Devo's iconic album. Each track cleverly incorporates punk intros, such as "Speechless" borrowing from Dead Boys' "Sonic Reducer," "On the Radio" from The Boys' "Brickfield Nights," and "Beautiful" from TSOL's "Superficial Love," among others. This album showcases the Gimme Gimmes' knack for reinventing pop hits with a punk rock twist, appealing to both fans of the originals and punk enthusiasts alike.
