Kerplunk! is the second studio album by Green Day, marking the debut of drummer Tré Cool with the band and cementing their early pop-punk sound. Released in 1991, the album showcases Green Day's developing style, with songs addressing themes of love, boredom, and alienation. Tracks like "2000 Light Years Away" and "Welcome to Paradise" became fan favorites, with the latter later re-recorded for their major-label breakthrough Dookie. Produced by Andy Ernst, the album received positive reviews for its energetic, catchy songwriting and Cool's dynamic drumming. Kerplunk! sold 10,000 copies on its first day of release and eventually went on to sell over four million copies worldwide. It remains a pivotal album in the band's career, propelling them toward mainstream success and helping to define 90s pop-punk.
