"Kerplunk!" marks the second studio album by American rock band Green Day, released on December 17, 1991, through Lookout! Records. This album represents Green Day's final independent venture with Lookout before moving to major label success, and it introduced Tré Cool as the band's drummer. While the official tracklist features 12 songs, CD and cassette versions include an additional four tracks from the Sweet Children EP, with one being a cover of The Who's "My Generation." In a 2021 interview with Vulture magazine, Green Day's lead vocalist and guitarist, Billie Joe Armstrong, expressed a special fondness for "Kerplunk," citing its autobiographical nature and indicating it as his favorite album, showcasing the band's early sound and foundational themes that would pave the way for their subsequent mainstream breakthrough.
